North Shore of San Francisco at Dusk

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I pass this spot in Fort Mason on my ride home from work, which has a really great view of the northern shore of San Francisco. I makes for a great long time exposure shot, at dusk, once the sun has dipped below the horizon. I propped my camera up on a rock, and set the shutter speed to 10 seconds with a small aperture — I think it was on 22. The resulting photograph has a warm glow feel to it.

What bridge is that over there?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I was riding in late to work, and as I passed the pier at the top end of Van Ness. I thought since I was already late, I’d go to the end of it to take a panorama of the marina and Ghirardelli square. There was one other guy on his bike taking pictures with his camera phone when I got there. As I set up to take my shots, the guy asked me, “Excuse, me. Do you know what bridge that is over there?” pointing at the Golden Gate Bridge. I politely told him the name of the bridge, and took my shots. He then asked me how to get to the bridge. I told him.

After living in San Francisco for the past nine years, there are certain thing you begin to take for granted, especially how beautiful this regions is. You also assume that such landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge are known and recognizable by all. Interacting with the other guy on his bike, this morning, makes me wonder how much of this other guy’s world is foreign to me. What great landmarks does he take for granted, that I’ve never know existed?

You can see full sized version of the panorama I took from the pier by clicking the small one below.

And, yes, that red-orange bridge in the far right side of the photo is the Golden Gate Bridge.

Un ciel démonté

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Today, the sky is preparing to fall. We are expecting a trio of “high intensity” storms over the next few days. This apparently translates into some good looking skies.

Here’s today’s daily picture.

From now on, go to MapSkip to see the Daily picks. MapSkip is a cool site where you can drop stories, with pictures and audio, on the map of the world. My co-worker/offce mate/friend and is wife spent their nights and weekends, for months, putting this site together. Enough of me not doing it justice. Go there for yourself and plant your stories on the world:

Cloudy Ride

Monday, December 17th, 2007

It had just rained, so today’s pictures are a bit gloomy. Here’s the daily shot of the Presidio overlook, which is called Inspiration Point, on Arguello.

The other is from Mason Street, which goes along Crissy Field, somewhere in between Sports Basement and the marina.

Today’s views

Today, I took two pictures. One from the same overlook as yesterday:

The other is from the path on the back side of Fort Mason:

Presidio overlook

I’ve been thinking of taking a daily picture of this overlook, as I pass by it everyday on my way to work. It’s in the Presidio, off of Arguello.

Finally, today, I started what will hopefully become a series. The resolution is not the best, since I used the camera on my phone, but I think it look a little like a painting, which isn’t a bad effect.
