Today, we had a breakthrough. Leila went on the potty at school twice. This is huge, because we normally have to bribe or persuade her to go on it, but today, at school, she asked for it herself.

Yesterday, as my coworker Thomas and I were walking to a team building event at the Fisherman’s Wharf Marriot, down the street from our office, I got a potty reward points call. I had to pretend to be Tyrone, the little moose Backyardigan, while walking around the hotel lobby, trying not to look like a complete lunatic. It was pretty funny.

The other night, I cold called our friend Shelly. I gave her the fifteen second onboarding, and then let her do her improv as Austin, the kangaroo.

The night before that, Leila eagerly followed me around the house, as I frantically tried to call everyone we knew in our timezone. Unfortunately, Austin must have been out partying, because he was too busy to answer the phone to congratulate Leila for having dropped caca in the toilet. She was pretty disappointed. She had to settle for a red lollipop.

I think I can see the light at the end of the diaper tunnel. At least for our first born. Our second born likes to stand in the potty and proudly say “caca” but I don’t think she’ll using it correctly for at least another year. I should by seventhGENERATION stock.

I just got off the phone with Leila. I had to pretend to be “Pablo”, one of the Backyardigans. She gets to call a Backyardigans friend when she goes on the potty. So far this is working better than chocolate, lollipops, TV, and gifts. We’re trying to refrain from using threats, since that would probably come back to haunt us later when we have to pay for her therapy sessions.

I did a pretty terrible impersonation, but she’s a believer. Now I’ll have to practice doing the voices of all the other Backyardigans: Tasha, Tyrone, Uniqua, and Austin.
